What employers ask for
The skills these listings keep naming
Interview questions worth rehearsing
With the thing the interviewer is actually listening for
Describe a time you refused to fill a prescription. How did you handle it?
Show clinical judgment plus diplomacy: the red flag you saw, how you contacted the prescriber, and how you spoke with the patient without accusation.
How do you keep verification accurate during high-volume hours?
Describe a consistent verification routine and how you protect it from interruption. Mention how you use technicians so checks never get skipped.
A patient is confused about a new medication. How do you counsel them?
Use plain language, confirm understanding by asking them to repeat key points, and check for interactions with what they already take.
How do you handle a conflict with a technician you supervise?
Show that you address issues early and privately, focus on the workflow rather than the person, and document if patterns continue.
What is your experience with immunizations and clinical services?
Quantify: vaccines per week, MTM sessions, or point-of-care testing. Retail employers increasingly hire around these services.
How do you stay current with new drugs and guideline changes?
Name concrete habits: CE topics you chose recently, references you check, and an example of a guideline change you applied at work.
Tell me about a near-miss error and what changed afterward.
Pick a real example and focus on the system fix, such as shelf separation or a new verification step, rather than individual fault.
Resume tips that move the needle
For pharmacists specifically — generic advice costs you here
Lead with your PharmD, state licensure, and NPI, plus immunization certification and any BPS board certifications such as BCPS.
Quantify your setting: prescriptions verified per day, technicians supervised, or clinical interventions documented per month.
Name your dispensing and clinical systems, for example Rx30, PioneerRx, or Epic Willow, since ramp time matters to employers.
Call out revenue-adjacent services you ran, such as vaccine clinics, MTM, or med sync programs, with participation numbers.
If hospital-based, note residency training (PGY1/PGY2), rounding responsibilities, and formulary or P&T committee work.
