What employers ask for
The skills these listings keep naming
Interview questions worth rehearsing
With the thing the interviewer is actually listening for
A shipment is running late and the customer is asking for updates. What do you do?
Show your sequence: confirm status with the carrier, get a realistic new ETA, and tell the customer before they call again. Proactive beats accurate-but-late.
How do you choose between carriers for a given load?
Talk about rate, transit time, lane history, and reliability together. Cheapest is not always the answer, and they want to hear you know why.
What freight documentation have you handled?
Name the documents plainly: BOLs, PODs, customs paperwork if applicable. Mention one time a documentation catch saved a claim or a delay.
Describe a day when several shipments went wrong at once. How did you prioritize?
Explain triage by customer impact and time sensitivity, and how you communicated while working the list. Calm sequencing is the skill being tested.
What TMS or tracking tools have you worked with?
List them, and if the company uses a different one, note that you have switched systems before without missing a beat.
How do you handle a carrier that repeatedly misses pickups?
Describe documenting the failures, raising it with the carrier rep, and lining up alternatives. Show you protect the operation, not the relationship alone.
Resume tips that move the needle
For logistics coordinators specifically — generic advice costs you here
Quantify your scope: loads coordinated per week, lanes covered, or freight spend managed.
Name your TMS experience specifically, such as MercuryGate, McLeod, or SAP TM.
Show a result from rate negotiation or carrier consolidation with a dollar or percent figure.
Mention modes you have coordinated: FTL, LTL, parcel, drayage, or international.
Include on-time delivery percentages you helped achieve or recover.
